Is Adiponectin legal in Australia?

Adiponectin is a hormone your fat makes, and it falls as you gain fat. Many studies link low levels to diabetes. It has never been given to a person. Gene studies in up to 80,000 people do not back the idea that low adiponectin causes insulin resistance or diabetes. In older adults, higher levels go with dying sooner.

Adiponectin is a protein made by fat cells. There is a lot of it in the blood, in clumps of different sizes.

How it works: In people, adiponectin runs low when body fat, insulin resistance and diabetes run high. But gene studies do not show that the adiponectin level causes changes in insulin or diabetes.

Approval history: Not FDA-approved. No adiponectin product, and no drug that switches on its receptor, is approved or has been tested in a registered human study. AdipoRon has never been tested in people.

Registers or lists medicines and health products on the ARTG, its official register. It also sorts substances into schedules in the Poisons Standard. Many peptides are Schedule 4 (prescription only). So having them without a prescription, or importing them for yourself, is restricted. That is true even when no product is registered.

Whether Adiponectin is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in Australia. Before you compete or get tested, look up Adiponectin by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
