U.S. Food and Drug Administration
Approves prescription drugs by indication and polices unapproved products, including peptides sold online. Compounding pharmacies may prepare some compounds under a prescription when the FDA places them on a permitted bulk-substances category.
United Kingdom
MHRA
Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency
Licenses medicines for the UK market. A compound without a marketing authorisation is an unlicensed medicine, which can only lawfully be supplied for human use through a prescriber under the specials scheme, not sold as a research product.
Australia
TGA
Therapeutic Goods Administration
Registers or lists therapeutic goods on the ARTG and schedules substances in the Poisons Standard. Many peptides are Schedule 4 (prescription only), so possession without a prescription and personal importation are restricted even when no product is registered.
Canada
Health Canada
Health Canada, Health Products and Food Branch
Authorises drugs for sale through a Notice of Compliance and Drug Identification Number. A compound that is not authorised for sale cannot lawfully be sold for human use, and personal importation of prescription drugs is limited.
One rule holds in all four countries: a vial labeled "for research use only" is not an approved product, and that label does not make human use lawful. Where a compound is an approved medicine it is supplied on prescription; where it is not, no product containing it is authorized for people.
