What Dermorphin is
A seven amino acid opioid from the skin of South American frogs. In animals it is 30 to 40 times stronger than morphine. It was given to 22 people in two Italian hormone studies in the 1980s and never made into a medicine. Its known real world use is as a hidden doping drug for racehorses, until it was caught in 2011.
Dermorphin was found in 1980 in the skin of Phyllomedusa tree frogs. It turned out to be one of the strongest and most targeted opioids known.
How it works: In people, what is known comes from 22 people in the 1980s. A dermorphin drip raised prolactin in healthy volunteers, and naloxone blocked that.
