What Icotrokinra is
A small peptide of 13 amino acids, taken as a pill, that blocks the IL-23 receptor. It is the first pill to hit that pathway, in a class that used to be shots only.
IL-23 is an immune signal that drives plaque psoriasis. The drugs that block it work very well, but all of them were antibody shots.
How it works: It locks onto the IL-23 receptor very tightly and blocks the IL-23 signal. The older IL-23 drugs are antibodies that grab the signal itself.
