What this means
- 01
No product containing Oveporexton is approved by Health Canada for any use in Canada, so nothing on the market is authorized for people.
- 02
"Research use only" is a vendor label, not a legal category that permits human use. It does not exempt a product from medicines law.
- 03
Importing, supplying or promoting it for human use can fall under medicines legislation in Canada. This page is general information, not legal advice.
What Oveporexton is
An oral orexin receptor 2 agonist, not a peptide, approved by the FDA on 5 August 2026 for narcolepsy type 1 in adults. In two 12 week phase 3 trials totalling 273 people it lengthened time awake on the Maintenance of Wakefulness Test by 14 to 20 minutes against roughly no change on placebo; a majority of treated participants developed insomnia and urinary frequency.
51 daltons, not a peptide. It is on this site because it is the first approved drug that acts at the receptor for orexin-A, the wake-promoting peptide whose neurons are lost in narcolepsy type 1.
Mechanism: In people with narcolepsy type 1 the hypothalamic neurons that make orexin-A and orexin-B are lost, so both orexin peptides are deficient while their receptors remain. Oveporexton is a selective agonist at orexin receptor 2 (OX2R), the receptor most tied to maintaining wakefulness, and it restores signalling at that receptor without replacing the peptide.
Regulatory history: FDA approved 5 August 2026 (Orzeyful, NDA 220860, orphan designation, priority review) for narcolepsy type 1 in adults. Controlled substance schedule pending DEA review at the time of labelling.
How Health Canada treats this kind of product
Authorises drugs for sale through a Notice of Compliance and Drug Identification Number. A compound that is not authorised for sale cannot lawfully be sold for human use, and personal importation of prescription drugs is limited.
The classification above is the The Longevity Archive reading of Health Canada, Health Products and Food Branch listings for Oveporexton at the reviewed date, not a legal opinion. Rules change, and importing, prescribing and possessing a compound can each be treated differently. Check the regulator directly before acting on anything here.
