What Beta-2 Microglobulin is
A blood protein that rises with age. Injected into young mice, it harms new brain cell growth and memory. In people it is a long-standing hospital blood test and goes with worse thinking scores. Nobody has tried lowering it for ageing.
The human evidence is from watching, not treating. A 2025 analysis looked at 1,267 US adults aged 60 and over from a national health survey run between 1999 and 2002.
How it works: In mice, B2M given into the body or straight into the memory centre harms memory and new brain cell growth. The harm is partly reduced in mice with less of the immune-display molecule on their cell surfaces.
Approval history: No therapy that lowers B2M is approved for ageing or thinking skills, and none is in a registered study for those uses. Doctors measure B2M in lab tests for kidney and blood diseases.
