Is Bromantane legal in the United Kingdom?

Bromantane is a Russian drug sold in the West as a focus pill. It does have human studies that compared it with a dummy pill. But every one of them scored tiredness and anxiety in people with long-term exhaustion, not thinking. Almost all of the work is small, in Russian, and from one Moscow research group. Tested athletes are banned from using it in competition under the 2026 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) list.

Bromantane is the one in this group that people actually search for and buy. It is also the hardest to look up in English.

How it works: Shown in rats, only guessed at in people. Bromantane is not a peptide.

Approval history: Not approved by the FDA for any use, and no FDA label exists. It is registered and sold in Russia under the name Ladasten, for asthenia, a condition of lasting weakness and tiredness. In the United States and elsewhere it is sold as a research chemical or as an unapproved brain-boosting supplement.

Licenses medicines for sale in the UK. A compound without a licence to be sold (a marketing authorisation) is an unlicensed medicine. The law only lets it reach people through a prescriber, under the specials scheme (unlicensed medicines made for one patient's needs). It cannot be sold as a research product.

Whether Bromantane is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in the United Kingdom. Before you compete or get tested, look up Bromantane by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
