Is CCL11 Blockade legal in Australia?

A signalling protein that rises with age in human blood and harms new brain cell growth in mice. There is data in people linking it to thinking skills, and no trial of blocking it in anyone.

Nobody has run a trial of blocking CCL11 in a person. Lowering or mopping up this protein is an idea, not a treatment.

How it works: In mice, raising CCL11 in the body slows the growth of new brain cells in the memory centre and harms learning and memory. Lowering it explains part of why a livelier, more interesting cage helps an old mouse's brain.

Approval history: No therapy that blocks CCL11 is approved for any use, and none is in a registered study for ageing or thinking skills. CCL11 can be measured in research labs and hospital labs.

Registers or lists medicines and health products on the ARTG, its official register. It also sorts substances into schedules in the Poisons Standard. Many peptides are Schedule 4 (prescription only). So having them without a prescription, or importing them for yourself, is restricted. That is true even when no product is registered.

Whether CCL11 Blockade is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in Australia. Before you compete or get tested, look up CCL11 Blockade by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
