Is NAD+ / B Complex legal in the United States?

Injectable NAD+ mixed with B12, and sometimes B6, sold as a clinic drip or as a vial for shots under the skin. No study has tested the mix. By weight, the B12 barely registers. In a typical 500 mg NAD+ drip with a 1,000 microgram B12 add-on, B12 is about 0.2 percent of the active ingredients. That is roughly one B12 molecule for every thousand NAD+ molecules. The one trial of a vitamin drip against a plain fluid drip (lactated Ringer's) found no clear difference on anything it measured.

How it works: NAD+ is a helper molecule cells use to make energy. It also feeds enzymes called sirtuins, PARPs and CD38.

Approval history: Not approved as a blend. B12 shots are approved for B12 deficiency. NAD+ is not an approved drug. It reaches patients through pharmacy mixing and drip (IV) clinics.

Approves prescription drugs, each for a named use. It also acts against unapproved products, including peptides sold online. Compounding pharmacies, which mix drugs to order, may make some compounds with a prescription. That only applies when the FDA puts the compound in a category of bulk ingredients it allows.

Whether NAD+ / B Complex is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in the United States. Before you compete or get tested, look up NAD+ / B Complex by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
