Is Senolytic CAR T cells legal in Australia?

Living immune cells, called T cells, engineered to find and kill worn-out 'zombie' cells by a marker on their surface called uPAR. Every result is in mice. No human study of this for ageing or zombie cells is registered anywhere.

This is one of the cleverest ideas in the senolytic field, and it has never been given to a person for this purpose. Senolytic pills work by pushing already-stressed zombie cells over the edge so they die.

How it works: uPAR is a protein anchored on the outside of cells. It goes up a lot when cells turn into zombie cells, so it can serve as a tag for them.

Approval history: No CAR T product that clears worn-out (senescent) cells is approved, and none is in a registered human trial for ageing or worn-out cells. CAR T therapy in general is approved in the United States for certain blood cancers. That is a different target, a different patient and a different weighing of risk.

Registers or lists medicines and health products on the ARTG, its official register. It also sorts substances into schedules in the Poisons Standard. Many peptides are Schedule 4 (prescription only). So having them without a prescription, or importing them for yourself, is restricted. That is true even when no product is registered.

Whether Senolytic CAR T cells is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in Australia. Before you compete or get tested, look up Senolytic CAR T cells by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
