Yes. Vosoritide is an approved medicine in Canada, classified as "Health Canada approved, prescription only". What this means

  • 01

Health Canada has approved Vosoritide for at least one labeled indication, so a pharmaceutical-grade product exists in Canada and is dispensed on prescription.

  • 02

Approval is indication-specific. Uses outside the label are a clinical decision for a prescriber, not something the approval itself authorizes.

  • 03

Unlicensed online vials, including those labeled "research use only", are not the approved product and are not covered by the approval.

What Vosoritide is

A C-type natriuretic peptide analogue approved for achondroplasia on a randomised phase 3. It increases growth velocity by roughly 1.6 cm a year, and nobody knows the effect on final adult height.

Vosoritide is the clearest example on this site of a peptide designed from a precise understanding of a single mutation. Achondroplasia is caused by a gain-of-function mutation in FGFR3 that over-suppresses growth plate cartilage.

Mechanism: A 39-amino-acid analogue of C-type natriuretic peptide, modified to resist degradation by neutral endopeptidase, which destroys the native peptide within minutes. It binds natriuretic peptide receptor B, raising cyclic GMP and activating protein kinase G, which inhibits the RAF and MEK and ERK cascade at the level of RAF-1.

Regulatory history: FDA-approved as Voxzogo to increase linear growth in children with achondroplasia with open epiphyses. Approval rests on growth velocity, not final adult height.

How Health Canada treats this kind of product

Authorises drugs for sale through a Notice of Compliance and Drug Identification Number. A compound that is not authorised for sale cannot lawfully be sold for human use, and personal importation of prescription drugs is limited.

The classification above is the The Longevity Archive reading of Health Canada, Health Products and Food Branch listings for Vosoritide at the reviewed date, not a legal opinion. Rules change, and importing, prescribing and possessing a compound can each be treated differently. Check the regulator directly before acting on anything here.
