What SG1002 is
Hydrogen sulfide is required for the lifespan benefits of dietary restriction in several species, so a donor was an unusually well-motivated candidate. It failed at three different starting ages.
The case for testing this was among the strongest in the whole programme. Hydrogen sulfide is a gaseous signalling molecule, and work across yeast, worms, flies and mice found it necessary for the lifespan and stress-resistance benefits of dietary restriction.
Mechanism: An orally bioavailable prodrug that releases hydrogen sulfide, raising plasma sulfide and thiosulfate. Hydrogen sulfide signals largely through persulfidation, adding a sulfur to reactive cysteine residues on target proteins, which modifies their activity.
Regulatory history: Investigational. Not approved for any indication.
How Health Canada treats this kind of product
Authorises drugs for sale through a Notice of Compliance and Drug Identification Number. A compound that is not authorised for sale cannot lawfully be sold for human use, and personal importation of prescription drugs is limited.
The classification above is the The Longevity Archive reading of Health Canada, Health Products and Food Branch listings for SG1002 at the reviewed date, not a legal opinion. Rules change, and importing, prescribing and possessing a compound can each be treated differently. Check the regulator directly before acting on anything here.
