Is SG1002 legal in the United Kingdom?

No results in people for ageing. Hydrogen sulfide is needed for eating less to extend life in several species, so a pill that releases it was an unusually good bet. In mice, it failed at three different starting ages.

The case for testing this was among the strongest in the whole program. Hydrogen sulfide is a gas the body uses as a signal.

How it works: SG1002 is a pill that releases hydrogen sulfide once absorbed, raising sulfide and thiosulfate in the blood. Hydrogen sulfide mostly works by sticking an extra sulfur onto certain proteins, which changes what they do.

Approval history: Investigational, meaning still being tested. Not approved for any use.

Whether SG1002 is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in the United Kingdom. Before you compete or get tested, look up SG1002 by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
