Thymogen is a tiny lab-made peptide, just two building blocks long. It was pulled out of Thymalin, a calf thymus extract, as its smallest active piece. Russia uses it to tune the immune system. It is not approved in the US.
What people take it for
- Fighting infections.
- Propping up a weak immune system.
What studies in people showed
The only human report here is a Russian one in type 1 diabetes, from 1996. The authors say it reversed signs of a weakened immune system. Everyone in it got the drug, and nobody was left out to compare against. So there is no way to know what would have happened anyway. Nobody has repeated it. A 2024 review notes that its mirror-image twin, thymodepressin, does the opposite to the immune system.

Thymogen is a tiny lab-made immune peptide from thymus research, used in Russia to support the immune system.
Thymogen is a lab-made peptide of just two building blocks, glutamic acid and tryptophan. It was found to be the smallest active piece inside thymus extracts such as Thymalin. In Russia it is used to tune the immune system in infections and weak immunity. A Russian report in type 1 diabetes said it reversed signs of a weakened immune system by helping T cells mature. Everyone in that study got the drug, and nobody was left out for comparison. A 2024 review pairs it with its mirror-image twin, thymodepressin. The two have opposite effects on the immune system, which is unusual. There is little independent evidence, and it is not FDA-approved.

A report rather than a trial, and it cannot carry what it claims. Patients with type 1 diabetes were given thymogen, and the authors describe signs of a weakened immune system reversing. Everybody in the study got the drug. There was no group that went without, so there is nothing to compare against and no way to know what would have happened anyway. This is a thirty year old account from one group, and it has not been repeated.
