Is AHK-Cu legal in Australia?

Written by Reviewed Sep 2026

Direct answer

AHK-Cu can be sold in Australia as a supplement or cosmetic ingredient. Its legal category is "Available as a supplement". That is not approval as a drug. TGA has not checked any health claim made for it. Versions you inject, and "research use only" versions, fall outside supplement rules, so that label does not make them legal to use in people. On the evidence, no study in people is cited on its profile.

A "research use only" label on a vial does not make it legal to use on people.

What this means

  • 01

AHK-Cu can be sold in Australia as a supplement, food or cosmetic ingredient, under the legal category above. It has no approval as a drug.

  • 02

Being sold as a supplement means TGA has not checked any health claim. The makers are responsible for safety and labels, and quality varies from product to product.

  • 03

Versions you inject, and "research use only" versions, are not supplements. That label does not make them legal to use in people, and anything you inject falls under the rules for medicines.

What AHK-Cu is

AHK-Cu is a copper peptide sold as the hair growth cousin of GHK-Cu. It has only been shown to push hair follicle cells to grow in a dish. There is no human trial.

AHK-Cu is copper bound to a different three building block peptide from GHK. Its direct evidence is one 2007 dish study.

How it works: In a dish, the copper peptide pushed follicle base cells to multiply and make more VEGF, a blood vessel growth signal.

Approval history: Cosmetic ingredient; not a drug

How TGA treats this kind of product

Registers or lists medicines and health products on the ARTG, its official register. It also sorts substances into schedules in the Poisons Standard. Many peptides are Schedule 4 (prescription only). So having them without a prescription, or importing them for yourself, is restricted. That is true even when no product is registered.

The legal category above is how The Longevity Archive reads Therapeutic Goods Administration listings for AHK-Cu on the reviewed date. It is not a legal opinion. Rules change. Bringing a compound into the country, prescribing it and owning it can each be treated differently. Check with the agency before you act on anything here.

AHK-Cu in sport and the military

Whether AHK-Cu is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in Australia. Before you compete or get tested, look up AHK-Cu by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.

The rules you compete or serve under decide this, not this page.
