Head to head

Fisetin against Quercetin

The two flavonoid senolytics people actually buy. A 2018 EBioMedicine paper, Fisetin is a senotherapeutic that extends health and lifespan, screened a panel of ten flavonoids for senolytic activity in cells, reported fisetin as the most potent of them, and then took that one into mice. That is where fisetin's reputation comes from, and the multi-site mouse programme built to replicate lifespan claims found no effect for it.

Column A

Fisetin

Fisetin (senolytic flavonoid)

A plant flavonoid and leading natural senolytic. One mouse study reported extended lifespan; the multi-site programme built to replicate such results found no effect.

Column B

Quercetin

Quercetin (senolytic flavonoid)

A dietary flavonoid used as a senolytic alongside dasatinib. It clears senescent cells in people; the randomised trials have not yet shown that this changes anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Fisetin and Quercetin?

Fisetin: A plant flavonoid and leading natural senolytic. One mouse study reported extended lifespan; the multi-site programme built to replicate such results found no effect. Quercetin: A dietary flavonoid used as a senolytic alongside dasatinib. It clears senescent cells in people; the randomised trials have not yet shown that this changes anything.

Which has stronger research evidence, Fisetin or Quercetin?

This database does not grade compounds. It counts what was run in people: 1 of the 3 studies cited on the Fisetin profile were human work, against 4 of 5 for Quercetin. Those counts are of our own citation lists and understate any larger literature, and neither is a recommendation.

Are Fisetin and Quercetin FDA-approved?

Fisetin: Sold as a supplement; in clinical trials for aging. Quercetin: Sold as a supplement; used in senolytic research.
