A Salk Institute fisetin derivative described as a 'geroneuroprotector' that improved memory and reduced brain lipid damage in mouse models of Alzheimer's; still in animal toxicology, yet already sold as a research chemical.
Overview
CMS-121 was engineered to be more potent and brain-penetrant than fisetin. In mouse Alzheimer's models it preserved cognition and reduced lipid peroxidation, acting in part through fatty acid synthase. The compound has not entered human trials and must complete formal toxicology before an IND. Vendors began selling it under trade names in 2026 without any human data.
Mechanism of action
Inhibits fatty acid synthase and lipid peroxidation, reducing neuroinflammation and preserving neuronal energy metabolism in aging brain.
