Is Ozempic the same as Wegovy?

They contain the same active drug, semaglutide. This site's semaglutide profile lists Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus as aliases. They are not the same labeled medicine: Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes, Wegovy for chronic weight management (injection, a pill approved December 2025, and a 7.2 milligram injection approved March 2026), and Rybelsus is the oral tablet for type 2 diabetes. STEP 1 used 2.4 milligrams weekly for weight. SURPASS-2 used semaglutide 1 milligram as the diabetes comparator. A prescription for one is not automatically a prescription for the other.
