Direct answer

No. Epitalon is not an approved medicine in Australia. Its legal category is "Not approved; banned in sport (WADA)". Nothing that contains it is allowed for any use in people. Vials labeled "for research use only" get no exception: that label does not make them legal to use in people. On the evidence, 5 completed human trials are cited on its profile.

What this means

  • 01

No product containing Epitalon is approved by TGA for any use in Australia. So nothing on sale is allowed for use in people.

  • 02

"Research use only" is a label sellers put on. It is not a legal category that allows use in people, and it does not get a product out of medicines law.

  • 03

Importing it, supplying it or promoting it for use in people can fall under medicines law in Australia. This page is general information, not legal advice.

What Epitalon is

A lab-made peptide based on a pineal gland extract. It has more human data than its reputation suggests, including 266 older people followed for 6 to 8 years and heart patients followed for 12 to 15 years. Almost all of it comes from one research group. None of it used a hidden dummy treatment to compare against.

Epitalon is a lab-made peptide four building blocks long (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). It was picked out as an active piece of Epithalamin, an extract of cow pineal gland.

How it works: The idea is that Epitalon works as a signal that turns genes on or off, not by fitting a receptor. In people, the most repeated finding is about melatonin, the sleep hormone.

Approval history: Not FDA-approved. On July 24, 2026 the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted 7 to 4, with one member abstaining, in favor of letting pharmacies make it for insomnia. The FDA has not written the rule yet

How TGA treats this kind of product

Registers or lists medicines and health products on the ARTG, its official register. It also sorts substances into schedules in the Poisons Standard. Many peptides are Schedule 4 (prescription only). So having them without a prescription, or importing them for yourself, is restricted. That is true even when no product is registered.

The legal category above is how The Longevity Archive reads Therapeutic Goods Administration listings for Epitalon on the reviewed date. It is not a legal opinion. Rules change. Bringing a compound into the country, prescribing it and owning it can each be treated differently. Check with the agency before you act on anything here.

Epitalon in sport and the military

Whether Epitalon is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in Australia. Before you compete or get tested, look up Epitalon by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.

The rules you compete or serve under decide this, not this page.
