Is Epitalon legal in Canada?

A lab-made peptide based on a pineal gland extract. It has more human data than its reputation suggests, including 266 older people followed for 6 to 8 years and heart patients followed for 12 to 15 years. Almost all of it comes from one research group. None of it used a hidden dummy treatment to compare against.

Epitalon is a lab-made peptide four building blocks long (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). It was picked out as an active piece of Epithalamin, an extract of cow pineal gland.

How it works: The idea is that Epitalon works as a signal that turns genes on or off, not by fitting a receptor. In people, the most repeated finding is about melatonin, the sleep hormone.

Approval history: Not FDA-approved. On July 24, 2026 the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted 7 to 4, with one member abstaining, in favor of letting pharmacies make it for insomnia. The FDA has not written the rule yet

Allows a drug to be sold by issuing a Notice of Compliance and a Drug Identification Number (DIN). A compound that is not allowed for sale cannot legally be sold for use in people. Bringing in prescription drugs for your own use is also limited.

Whether Epitalon is banned in sport is set by the World Anti-Doping Code and by military rules, not by its legal status in Canada. Before you compete or get tested, look up Epitalon by name on the Prohibited List, or look up a named product in Global DRO. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, category S0 bans, at all times, any drug-like substance that meets two tests. No other section of the List covers it. And no government health regulator anywhere has a current approval for it as a treatment in people. Many substances that are approved somewhere are banned by name in another section. So approval does not mean a substance is allowed in sport.
