This is how I would explain it to a friend. The evidence, with the numbers, is further down the page.

Ovagen is sold as a liver and gut peptide. Here is the problem. Search the medical database for it and you get 34 papers, and not one of them is about this. They are about waste water, gall bladder surgery, and germ free birds. There is no science on this product at all. Even the ingredient list is a guess.

What people take it for

  • Helping a tired or fatty liver.
  • Gut problems like bloating and poor digestion.
  • A general detox or cleanse.
  • Anti aging, because it is sold next to peptides that claim it.

What the trials actually showed

Nothing was shown, because nothing was tested. No trial. No animal study. No cell study. Not one paper under this name. Vendors say the ingredient is three amino acids called EDL. That is not confirmed either. A 2023 paper listed 26 of these tiny peptides with real published ingredient lists, and this one is not on it. To be fair, some retail names here may be relabelled versions of products that do have research under another name. That link has never been printed anywhere, so you cannot borrow it.

  • Some people report better digestion in the first month.
  • Some report more energy, which is the most common claim for anything in this family.
  • Capsules are easy to take and cheap.

  • Most reports are vague. People say they feel better without pointing at anything.

Overview

Sold as a liver and gut peptide bioregulator with the sequence Glu-Asp-Leu. A PubMed search for Ovagen returns 34 records, none of them about this product: they are wastewater engineering, laparoscopic surgery and germ-free poultry. There is no indexed peer-reviewed evidence for this compound under this name, and even the sequence attribution is unverified.

Ovagen appears in retail peptide bioregulator catalogues as a liver and gastrointestinal product, usually with the sequence EDL, Glu-Asp-Leu, attached to it. It is one of the Cytogen and Cytomax style trade names sold alongside better known members of the Khavinson family.

Searched directly against PubMed, the name returns nothing relevant. The 34 records that come back include a method for sterilising isolators to produce germ-free eggs, machine learning for wastewater treatment plants, and a randomised trial of a pulmonary recruitment manoeuvre after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. None of them concerns a peptide bioregulator. A search for a liver peptide with the Glu-Asp-Leu sequence returns a single 1989 Biochemistry paper on guinea pig liver transglutaminase terminal sequencing, which is unrelated chemistry.

This page exists because the product is sold and because saying so plainly is more useful than the confident mechanism write-ups that circulate for it. The organ-target claim, the sequence attribution and the dosing advice you will find on vendor pages are not traceable to any indexed source.

One qualification, and it cuts both ways. Several retail names in this family are probably marketing labels for polypeptide complexes that do have literature under a different name. That mapping is itself unverified. It is plausible that Ovagen corresponds to a liver polypeptide complex studied in Russian work under another name, and it is not established, so nothing published about any such complex can be attributed to this product.

Mechanism of action

No mechanism has been demonstrated for this product. The circulating account, that a Glu-Asp-Leu tripeptide enters hepatocytes and regulates transcription of liver-specific genes, is an extension of the general Khavinson epigenetic hypothesis applied to an organ label. A 2023 paper lists 26 biologically active ultrashort peptides with published sequences and models their transport; the sequences named there include ED, DS, DR, EDR, EDG, AEDR, AEDL, KEDP, KEDG and AEDG. EDL is not among them under this trade name, which is why the sequence attribution for Ovagen is reported here as unverified rather than as fact.

Reading the research record

The honest summary of this page is a negative search result, so the method matters. The name was searched against PubMed directly, returning 34 records that were individually checked by title and found to concern unrelated fields. A separate search for a liver peptide carrying the claimed Glu-Asp-Leu sequence returned one 1989 protein chemistry paper about guinea pig liver transglutaminase, also unrelated. ClinicalTrials.gov has no registered study of any compound in this family.

Ovagen belongs to a list of retail trade names that each returned nothing on individual search: Endoluten, Vladonix, Cerluten, Suprefort, Svetinorm, Ventfort, Zhenoluten, Glandokort, Pielotax, Stamakort, Bonothyrk, Taxorest, Visoluten, Gotratix, Honluten, Libidon, Normoftal, Bonomarlot, Thyreogen, Ventragen, Cerebramin, Chondramin, Testalamin and Ovariamin. Naming the whole list is more useful than treating each one as a separate mystery.

Everything in the Khavinson peptide bioregulator family shares one structural problem, and it is not a problem with the chemistry. Not one compound in the family has a registered clinical trial: ClinicalTrials.gov returns zero studies for epitalon, thymalin, cortexin, retinalamin, prostatilen and epithalamin alike, on a query shape that returns results for ordinary drugs. The literature sits almost entirely in three journals, Advances in Gerontology, Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine and Vestnik Oftalmologii, most of it in Russian with English abstracts only, and most of it authored by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology or by Anisimov's group in the same city. No independent replication outside those groups has been located for any of the lifespan claims. Separately, no adverse event data appears in any of the abstracts retrieved for this family. The Russian literature in this area does not systematically report safety endpoints, and that absence should be read as missing data rather than as a clean safety record.

It is cited on this page as the class benchmark: this is what a bioregulator result looks like when one exists, and Ovagen has nothing comparable.
