A neuroprotective peptide fragment studied in humans for neurodegenerative disease, with a failed pivotal trial but ongoing interest.

Overview

Davunetide is an eight-amino-acid fragment of activity-dependent neuroprotective protein (ADNP) that stabilizes the neuronal cytoskeleton. It reached human trials for cognitive and neurodegenerative conditions; a pivotal Phase 2/3 study in progressive supranuclear palsy did not meet its endpoints. Research interest continues in ADNP-related disorders. It is not approved.

Mechanism of action

Stabilizes microtubules and tau-related cytoskeletal structure in neurons, supporting neuronal integrity.
