VK2735

VK2735 (dual GLP-1 / GIP agonist)

Viking Therapeutics' dual GLP-1 and GIP agonist in Phase 3 as an injection, with an oral version showing rapid early weight loss.

Overview

VK2735 is Viking Therapeutics' dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, in the same mechanistic class as tirzepatide. The injectable form advanced to Phase 3 (VANQUISH) after Phase 2 showed roughly 14.7% weight loss in about 13 weeks, and an oral form showed around 12.2% at 13 weeks, among the fastest early responses of any oral agent. It is investigational. Update, September 2026: both Phase 3 VANQUISH trials of the weekly injection are fully enrolled (VANQUISH-1, about 4,650 adults, November 2025; VANQUISH-2 in type 2 diabetes, March 2026), each running 78 weeks.

Mechanism of action

Agonizes both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors to enhance insulin secretion, reduce appetite, and slow gastric emptying.
