What is the difference between thymosin alpha 1 and thymalin?

Both are thymus derived immune peptides from different traditions. Thymosin Alpha-1 is a single, chemically defined peptide approved as Zadaxin in more than 30 countries, mainly for hepatitis. Thymalin is a preparation derived from calf thymus tissue, used clinically in the Soviet Union and Russia since the 1980s with its own separate clinical literature, including a long running mortality cohort. Neither is FDA approved in the US.
