UBT251

UBT251 (GLP-1/GIP/glucagon triple agonist)

Also known as: UBT-251

Novo Nordisk's licensed triple agonist that produced up to 19.7% weight loss in 24 weeks in a Chinese Phase 2, the company's answer to retatrutide.

Overview

UBT251 was developed by The United Laboratories and licensed by Novo Nordisk outside China. A 24-week Phase 2 reported in February 2026 showed up to 19.7% mean weight loss (17.5 kg) against 2.0% on placebo, and a diabetes Phase 2 reported HbA1c reductions up to 2.16%. Novo dropped its in-house triple agonist despite a positive Phase 2 and is advancing UBT251 instead, with Phase 3 planned in China.

Mechanism of action

Agonism of GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors, combining appetite suppression with increased energy expenditure.

Frequently asked questions

Is UBT251 the same as retatrutide?

No. Both hit GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors, but they are different molecules from different companies. Retatrutide has completed Phase 3; UBT251 has 24-week Phase 2 data.
