Does reusing a needle cause lipohypertrophy?

Needle reuse is a measured risk factor, and it is not the strongest one. In the same 2026 meta-analysis of 51 insulin-therapy studies, incorrect site rotation had roughly nine times the odds of lipohypertrophy, while reusing the same needle across injections sat second at about three times the odds, ahead of more than five years on therapy and more than two injections a day. One needle, one syringe, only one time still stands for contamination reasons as well. This is not a dose or a protocol. Full walkthrough at /injecting.

Part of injecting: sites, needles and safety. Subcutaneous vs intramuscular, site rotation, lipohypertrophy, needle length and gauge, vial hygiene at injection time, travel syringes, scar tissue, and when to stop and see a clinician. Full walkthrough at /injecting.
