How do selank and semax work?

Semax is a fragment of ACTH that is thought to act through boosting brain derived neurotrophic factor, BDNF, supporting neuroprotection and cognitive effects. Selank is a synthetic analogue of tuftsin, an immune signaling peptide, studied for anxiolytic and mild cognitive effects through a different pathway related to stress hormone regulation. Both are given intranasally because their short half life, on the order of minutes, would not survive oral digestion or last long systemically.
