How does pinealon work?

Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide, Glu-Asp-Arg, from the Khavinson bioregulator school. This site's profile proposes that it regulates gene expression in neurons and protects against oxidative and hypoxic stress. Half-life is listed as short. Molecular weight is 418.4 daltons. The one human citation on that page is a 32-patient Russian study of Pinealon and Vesugen on biological-age markers, with no independent replication. Markers are not a clinical outcome, and 32 people is a thin base. It is not FDA approved. Cell and animal citations on that page report that Glu-Asp-Arg restricted reactive oxygen species and necrotic death in neuronal and PC12 cells, and improved cognitive function in offspring of hyperhomocysteinemic rats.
