How does noopept work?

Noopept, also called omberacetam, is a proline-containing dipeptide ester. This site's profile says it increases BDNF and NGF expression and modulates glutamate signaling. Half-life is listed as short. Molecular weight is 318.4 daltons. Russian pharmacology describes it as active at doses roughly 1,000-fold lower than piracetam. The human citation is an open Russian study in mild cognitive impairment that reported EEG changes typical of nootropic action, not placebo-controlled, and it did not measure memory, attention, or daily function. It is approved in Russia and not FDA approved. Acute and 28-day dosing increased hippocampal NGF and BDNF mRNA in rats without tolerance.
