Why is semax not FDA approved?

It has not gone through the FDA's drug approval process at all, which requires the manufacturer to run the specific trials the FDA reviews. Semax is approved in Russia and Ukraine on the strength of research conducted there, but that approval does not transfer to the US. A US advisory committee did vote in July 2026 to recommend it for compounding pharmacy use, though FDA has not finalized any rule based on that vote.
