How does HCG work?
HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin. This site's profile says it activates LH receptors to stimulate testicular testosterone production and, in women, support ovulation and the corpus luteum. Half-life is about 24 to 36 hours. Molecular weight is about 36,700 daltons. It is FDA approved for fertility and for certain forms of hypogonadism, and is not approved for weight loss. In 29 men, low-dose hCG every other day preserved intratesticular testosterone during exogenous testosterone. In 26 men on testosterone replacement plus low-dose hCG, semen parameters held over a mean 6.2 months; everyone got both drugs, so there was no testosterone-alone comparison. Weight loss is a different use: a meta-analysis of 24 trials found no scientific basis for hCG as an adjunct in obesity treatment, and the FDA has warned against hCG diet products. Those fertility and testicular measurements do not become a weight-loss result. This FAQ does not invent a dose. Full record at /compounds/hcg.
