What is melanotan 1?
Melanotan I, also called afamelanotide, is an FDA approved melanocortin receptor agonist sold as Scenesse, used to increase skin pigmentation and protect people with erythropoietic protoporphyria, a rare disorder that makes skin extremely light sensitive. It is delivered as a slow release implant. Unlike melanotan 2, it has a specific, approved medical indication in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada.
