What does MOTS-c do?

MOTS-c is a mitochondrial derived peptide with a real human literature behind it: a common genetic variant found in East Asian populations, circulating levels that have been measured across age and disease states, and a documented exercise response, alongside a first controlled human trial now recruiting. None of that existing evidence shows a benefit from giving it to someone as a drug, which is a different question the recruiting trial is designed to test.
