Is KPV the same as alpha-MSH?

No. KPV is a three-amino-acid fragment of alpha-MSH, not the full hormone. This site's KPV profile lists molecular weight 342.4 daltons and says it carries much of alpha-MSH's anti-inflammatory activity without pigmentation effects. Alpha-MSH itself is the parent melanocortin hormone that also drives pigmentation through MC1R, the pathway melanotan products use.
