How does hexarelin work?
Hexarelin is a synthetic hexapeptide that agonizes the ghrelin, or growth hormone secretagogue, receptor to release a pulse of growth hormone. Half-life on this site's profile is about 55 minutes. Molecular weight is 887.0 daltons. In 12 healthy volunteers, intravenous hexarelin released about twice as much growth hormone as GHRH, and the response was dose-dependent across vein, skin, nose, and mouth routes. Twice-daily use for 16 weeks in 12 healthy elderly people cut that growth hormone response by roughly half; the fade was partial and reversed four weeks after stopping. A small acute study found intravenous hexarelin raised ejection fraction in ischemic cardiomyopathy but not in dilated cardiomyopathy, despite similar growth hormone release.
