How does somatropin work?
Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone, identical to the pituitary hormone. This site's profile says it directly activates growth hormone receptors, raising IGF-1 and driving growth, protein synthesis, and metabolic effects. Half-life is about 3 to 4 hours after a subcutaneous dose. Molecular weight is 22,124 daltons. It is FDA approved for growth hormone deficiency and several other labeled indications. Six months of rhGH in 24 GH-deficient adults raised lean mass by 5.5 kg and cut fat mass by 5.7 kg versus placebo, with no change in body weight. A crossover in 60 hypopituitary adults taken off GH for four months found IGF-1 fell from 168 to 98 micrograms per litre, two quality-of-life domains deteriorated, and waist and visceral fat rose. Those are deficiency-treatment results, not a finding in people whose own growth hormone is normal. Secretagogues such as ipamorelin prompt a pulse; somatropin is the hormone itself. This FAQ does not invent a dose. Full record at /compounds/somatropin.

Part of growth hormone secretagogues. Sermorelin, tesamorelin, ipamorelin, CJC-1295, and the rest of the GHRH and ghrelin receptor family.
