What is tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is a stabilized analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone, FDA approved under the brand name Egrifta specifically to reduce excess visceral fat in people with HIV associated lipodystrophy. It works by prompting the pituitary to release growth hormone rather than supplying growth hormone directly, and it is also being studied for cognitive effects in older adults at risk for Alzheimer's disease.
