How does tesamorelin work?

Tesamorelin binds the GHRH receptor on the pituitary, the same receptor the body's own growth hormone releasing hormone uses, and prompts a pulse of growth hormone rather than supplying growth hormone as a drug. Half-life on this site's profile is about 26 to 38 minutes. Molecular weight is 5,135.9 daltons. The approved product, Egrifta, is for HIV-associated visceral fat: 412 people at 26 weeks, visceral fat down 15.2% versus a 5.0% rise on placebo, and 806 pooled, treatment effect minus 15.4% VAT with no change in subcutaneous fat. That is a visceral-fat result in that population, not a general fat-oxidation finding. This FAQ does not invent a dose. Full record at /compounds/tesamorelin.
