How does adipotide work?
Adipotide, also written FTPP, is a bipartite experimental peptide. This site's profile says a targeting domain binds prohibitin on fat-tissue blood vessels and a proapoptotic domain disrupts those cells' mitochondria, starving white-fat depots of blood supply. Half-life is listed as short. Molecular weight is about 2,600 daltons. This site's review found two citations, both non-human. It is not FDA approved and has not entered general clinical use. In obese rhesus monkeys it produced 7.4 to 14.7% weight loss in four weeks, with dose-dependent, reversible kidney effects. Original mouse work used a CKGGRAKDC homing motif coupled to a proapoptotic peptide. Those animal findings do not transfer into a counted human mechanism, and kidney toxicity in the primate studies is why it has not advanced. This FAQ does not invent a human mechanism.
