Is Wegovy the same as semaglutide?

Wegovy is a brand name for semaglutide, the same GLP-1 receptor agonist this site's profile lists as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. They are not the same labeled medicine. Wegovy is the chronic weight-management brand (injection, a pill approved December 2025, and a 7.2 milligram injection approved March 2026). Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes. Rybelsus is the oral tablet for type 2 diabetes. STEP 1 used 2.4 milligrams weekly for weight in 1,961 adults (minus 14.9% at 68 weeks). A prescription for one brand is not automatically a prescription for another. A research-chemical vial labeled semaglutide is not any of those approved products. This site does not rank the brands.
